Butzel attorney and shareholder Michael L. Gutierrez is one of 25 attorneys named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Go To Lawyers: Business Litigation” list. This program honors leading lawyers in a particular field of law as nominated by their peers.
A “Go To Lawyer” is:
• A lawyer who is an expert in his or her field, well-versed in the nuances of the case law, statutes and regulations clients will encounter.

Gutierrez handles complex litigation matters and disputes for businesses and individuals throughout Michigan and nationally.
He advises business owners and officers in litigation arising out of equity interest valuation and corporate governance disputes, including claims of shareholder and member oppression, breaches of fiduciary duties, errors and omissions of company officers and directors, and breaches of restrictive covenants.
Gutierrez also represents businesses and individuals in administrative proceedings, internal investigations, and the defense of claims arising out of the False Claims Act, federal banking regulations, federal labor regulations, as well as state regulatory and antifraud statutes.
He was recently named to the inaugural 2023 Crain’s Notable West Michigan Lawyers list. Gutierrez has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Business Litigation.
Gutierrez is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law (J.D., magna cum laude). He earned a B.A., (magna cum laude) from North Park University. He is licensed to practice in Michigan and Illinois.
