City seeking applicants for vacant 5th Ward City Council seat

Following the resignation of former Fifth Ward City Councilmember Karen Bunnell in September, the City of Jackson is looking appoint a Fifth Ward resident.

Ward 5 is made up of the western half of Downtown Jackson and several residential neighborhoods surrounding downtown. Interested residents may apply for the City Council appointment by submitting an application at cityofjackson.org. 

The deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3.

Applicants must be have their primary residence in the 5th Ward and be a registered voter within the ward. 

Candidates will be contacted at a future date for an interview with the City Council. The council intends to fill the vacancy by the end of November.

The City Council will interview applicants, and then vote on an appointment. The appointed resident will hold the City Council seat until elections are held to fill the seat in August 2024 (Primary Election) and November 2024 (General Election). 

The winner of the General Election will complete the rest of the original term, ending in December 2025.
