Tracey Cooley appointed as New Executive Director of the Detroit Bar Association & Foundation

The Detroit Bar Association is proud to announce the appointment of Tracey Cooley as its new Executive Director. With a distinguished career in the nonprofit and legal sectors spanning 30 years, Tracey brings a wide range of experience, knowledge, leadership and dedication to the Detroit Bar in her new role. “I am very honored and humbled to accept this position with such a prestigious association. I look forward to collaborating with the membership, staff, and board in furtherance of the mission, vision, and goals.”

 As the Executive Director, Tracey will lead the Detroit Bar in its mission to create and serve a legal com-munity that promotes professionalism and integrity of the legal profession; supports access to justice; and fosters relationships and equity of opportunity for all lawyers. With a deep understanding of the associa-tion’s rich history and its current landscape, Tracey is poised to drive innovation and guide the Detroit Bar in leading the lawyers of today and tomorrow to be ready to address the most pressing concerns of the legal community and optimize conditions to achieve access to justice.

President-Elect Tiffany Ellis expressed enthusiasm for Tracey’s leadership, stating, “As one of the oldest bar associations in the country, the Detroit Bar has long worked to support the pillars of justice our legal system requires. Under Tracey’s leadership, our work will continue to evolve to meet the needs of a changing society and the practice of law. We are thrilled about the new energy and ideas to innovate that Tracey brings to the organization and our community as a whole.”

Tracey brings a unique blend of vision, experience, and dedication to her role as Executive Director, posi-tioning the Detroit Bar Association for continued growth and impact under her leadership. She has more than three decades of experience in the nonprofit and legal communities with Sparrow Freedom Project as Executive Director, Kevelighan & Kevelighan PC as Senior Attorney, Hope Against Trafficking as Execu-tive Director, Junior League of Birmingham in many leadership roles, Bloomfield Hills Schools in many leadership roles, Law Offices of Dehai Tao as an Immigration Attorney, and Computech Corporation as In-House Counsel.

Tracey earned her JD from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a BA, Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Public Affairs and French from Columbia College in South Carolina.

She enjoys traveling; going to art fairs and festivals; relaxing at the lake or ocean; and spending time with her four children, Brenden, Ryan, Bridget, and Sabrina, as well as her furry animals, Foxy and Forest.
