Sen. Santana’s advocacy ensures Michigan residents have access to life-saving, direct treatment for COVID-19 and influenza based on pharmacy-administered test results. The legislation recognizes the trust Michiganders have in their pharmacists and the necessity of utilizing the expertise and convenience pharmacies provide as part of the larger healthcare system.
The PREP Act codification bill, SB 219, was signed into law on July 18, 2023.
Sen. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) serves Michigan’s 2nd Senate District which includes all of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, and parts of Allen Park and Detroit. She was first elected to the Senate to serve the 3rd district (prior to redistricting) from 2019 to 2022. She also served in the Michigan House of Representatives representing the 9th district from 2017 to 2019.
