Etter graduated from University High School in Ann Arbor in 1954 and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1958, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi.
He earned his JD from the University of Michigan Law School in 1961.
Etter served in the United States Army from 1960-1962; and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1963.
He co-founded the law firm of Reading & Etter in 1971, where he worked his entire professional life.
He was also a lifelong fan of Michigan football and was named a member of the Michigan Media Hall of Fame for his many years of service in the press box.
A memorial party will be held in July.
