Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco to speak at ABA General Assembly Aug. 2

U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco will deliver the keynote speech at the American Bar Association’s General Assembly in Chicago on Aug. 2, addressing challenges to the rule of law and pressing concerns facing the nation and legal profession.

Monaco, who serves as the second-highest official at the U.S. Department of Justice and the agency’s chief operating officer, brings a wealth of experience to the keynote. Her distinguished career includes counsel to then-Attorney General Janet Reno, an assistant United States attorney for the District of Columbia and as homeland security and counterterrorism adviser to President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017. A graduate of Harvard Uwww.americanbar.org/newsniversity and the University of Chicago Law School, Monaco’s extensive experience in national security and as a career federal prosecutor will provide valuable insights into today’s evolving legal landscape.

The keynote is a highlight of the 2024 ABA Annual Meeting, which runs from July 31 to Aug. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and at additional locations throughout the city. This premier national legal gathering hosts a robust schedule of sessions on leading legal issues, a half-day summit discussing ways to ensure an enduring American democracy and a day and a half session of the ABA House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body.
