Retired prison warden and author Pam Withrow, the first woman in Michigan to head a prison for male felons, was guest speaker at the October 21 BPW meeting at Cascades Manor House. The author of “Madam Warden,” and “Welfare to Warden,” she focused on the importance of women in the corrections business and how the friendship of women was a lifeline during her career. Withrow was named as National Warden of the Year in 2001 by the North American Association of Wardens and Superintendents, and was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in 2003.
