Ann Arbor, MI – The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) proudly honors this year’s Humane Youth Award recipients, celebrating the compassion and dedication of local youth in animal advocacy.
Clara Peikert of Ann Arbor, 17, has been named the 2024 Humane Youth Award winner.
As a “Junior Volunteer” at HSHV, Clara has donated over 100 hours of service, enriching the lives of the cats, dogs, and other animals who come through the shelter’s doors. She’s also been a top fundraiser for HSHV’s Walk and Wag event and helped lead their Camp PAWS program. And her leadership and passion extend beyond volunteering, as she also advocates for animal welfare in her school and community, having recently rescued a garter snake trapped in garden netting and transported an injured duck to a bird sanctuary.
Sydney Bennett of Canton, 15, was named first runner-up, recognized for her active volunteer work at HSHV and her inspiring efforts to educate others about humane treatment of animals.
Second runner-up, Davina Seth of Ann Arbor, 17, has been instrumental in fostering and rehabilitating animals, dedicating her time and care to providing temporary homes for animals in transition.
Additional youth receiving honorable mention for the Humane Youth Award include Kyle Grant, Dusk Boyle, Tristan Hewitt, and Adelina Harris.
“We are so proud of these young individuals whose compassion for animals inspires all of us,” said Karen Patterson, HSHV’s VP of Volunteers and Humane Education. “Their dedication exemplifies the values we hold dear at HSHV, and we are excited to recognize them for their incredible work which bodes well for the world’s future.”
The award recipients will be honored at HSHV’s annual Compassionate Feast gala, where they will be celebrated alongside other advocates for their contributions to animal welfare.
