Suspect in Downtown Break-Ins Dies

The case of a Zeeland man charged in the recent break-ins of Frank’s Restaurant and Zeeland Bakery will not go to trial because the suspect has died, according to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office.

County Prosecutor Sarah Matwiejczyk confirmed that 41-year-old Jeremy Andrew Butler died before he was scheduled to appear at a Jan. 22 probable cause hearing in 58th District Court in Holland on two felony counts of breaking and entering. Matwiejczyk would not comment on how Butler died.

Butler was arrested by Zeeland Police after an investigation into the break-ins that occurred in the early-morning hours of Jan. 7.

He had been released on a $10,000 bond after he was arraigned.
