The crash took place shortly after 11 a.m. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, an 86-year-old Holland man was driving a silver Pontiac sedan westbound on Riley when he went to turn left onto 112th. The sedan was struck by a white Ford SUV driven by a 34-year-old Zeeland woman, which was headed eastbound on Riley, Sgt. Joshua McCarthy of the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The traffic signal was reported to be green in both directions on Riley at the time of the crash, McCarthy said.
The 78-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Pontiac sedan, was taken to the emergency room at Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Both drivers were also injured, according to the accident report.
None of the victims’ names were released. Responding agencies to the crash were the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Holland Township Fire/Rescue and AMR Ambulance.
