Driver Injured When Struck By Front End Loader

A 22-year-old Holland man was injured last Saturday when his car was struck by a front end loader just west of the Zeeland city limits.

The crash took place at 7:22 a.m. in the area of the westbound Interstate 196 business loop near Van Hill Drive.

According to investigators from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the Holland man was driving westbound on Business I-196 in a four-door sedan. As he approached Van Hill Drive, his vehicle was struck by a large commercial front end loader that was being used for plowing. The front end loader, driven by a 45-year-old Zeeland man, was crossing westbound Business I-196 to Van Hill Drive, Sgt. Jon Knott of the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

The driver of the sedan, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver of the front end loader was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department, Knott said.
