Helen Garris, matriarch of the partners of the Garris Law Firm in Ann Arbor, died February 13.
She was the wife of Jack J. Garris, a long-time area attorney who preceded her in death in 2005.
Helen and Jack met as students at the University of Michigan, and married in 1948. The couple moved to Washington, D.C. where Jack attended George Washington University Law School and Helen worked as an editorial assistant for the National Travel Publications of AAA.
The pair returned to Ann Arbor in 1951.
Their three children—Steven, Michael and Jacelen--are all attorneys, following in their father’s footsteps, working at Garris, Garris, Garris and Garris, P.C. in downtown Ann Arbor.
Helen was the office manager up until the end of her life, coming in daily to make sure all was in order.
The funeral was held February 18 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3109 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor.
