Peter Terpstra, 95
Peter Adrian Terpstra, 95, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Peter was a charter member of Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon and elder over the years. He was employed by General Electric for 31 years, and was a volunteer for Bibles for Mexico and World Renew.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ruth (Blauwkamp) Terpstra; seven brothers, three sisters, and their spouses.
He is survived by his sons, Ken (Mary) Terpstra, Jim (Kathy) Terpstra and Dan (Kathy) Terpstra; grandchildren, Wendie (Jeremy) Freriks, Nick (Sarah) Terpstra, Kylie (Jeff) Leeuw, Ryan (Amanda) Terpstra, Emily (Tom) Bierma, Sean (Mary Miller) Terpstra and Nathan (Emilie) Terpstra; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Harmelink and Ruth (Vugteveen) Terpstra; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church, 836 E. 8th St., Holland.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland.
Theary Sor, 66
Theary Sor, 66, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 surrounded by family.
Theary was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1959. She grew up with her parents and eight siblings – one brother and seven sisters. As an outcome of the war and genocide in Cambodia, only Theary and her sister survived. She worked as an aide, nursing those injured and in need. This was the story of many displaced families during that difficult period of time. The resilience of Theary led her to pursue a full life of caring and helping others.
In 2010, Theary’s journey brought her to Holland. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, and was always adorned in jewelry; dressed up in beautiful clothing, and gathering with those she loved.
She is survived by her partner, Jeff; her daughter, Malin and husband Song, son, Masato and wife Haruka, son, Sothun and wife Sreynith, and daughter Kunthea; the father of her children, Saoreth; grandchildren, Sander, Sandra, Akari, Hiroshi, Sotheabossba, Sothbrosaer, Pannha, Syna, Sokuntheary and Carole; great-grandchildren; Amillia and Virgil.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland.
A visitation and service will occur Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services. Burial will be held following the service at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 994 Paw Paw Dr., Holland.
A ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 6 at 9 a.m. at the Cambodian Buddhist Society of Michigan, 3961 120th Ave., Holland.
Joyce Nienhuis, 94
Joyce Nienhuis, 94, of Holland, peacefully passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Quincy Place in Holland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Nienhuis, and her daughter, Vicki Lynn Kline, both in 2013.
She is survived by her children, Curtis Nienhuis of Holland and Diane (Scott) Suits of Zeeland; son-in-law, Robert Kline of Summerville, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dale and Chris Nienhuis of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Norma Nienhuis of South Haven; along with many nieces and nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 2 at First Reformed Church in Holland. Burial was at Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
James Keppel, 87
James Keppel, 87, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 to be with his Lord and Savior.
Jim was an accountant at Zeeland Lumber prior to retirement. He was a member of Hanley Christian Reformed Church, where he served as elder and chair of the building committee. He served his community on the Jamestown Township Planning Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Jean Keppel; son, Jon and Elizabeth Keppel; son, Jeff and Sara Keppel; grandchildren, Darren Keppel, Tyler Keppel, Luke Keppel, Jaclyn Keppel, Jeannie and Jordan Oesch (Preston), Taylor and Andrew VanDerLaan (Charlie and Evelyn), and Ethan Keppel; sister, Mary Groenheide; and extended family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 2 at Hanley Christian Reformed Church, O-372 Jackson St., Grandville.
Barbara Reuschel, 77
Barbara Lynn Reuschel, 77, of Holland, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Barb was born Dec. 8, 1947, in Holland to John & Alma (Brouwer) Diekema. Barb graduated from Holland High School. She raised her four children in Hamilton and was also a daycare provider for many years.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Diekema.
She is survived by her children, Chad (Barbie) Reuschel, Lisa (Brian) Bremer, Amber (Brian) Vanderzalm and Tiffany (Jon) Price; 17 grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Tom) Lawson; brother, Larry Diekema and extended family members.
A visitation celebration will be held Saturday, April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Ines Perez-Ortiz, 90
Ines Perez-Ortiz, 90, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Ines was born on Jan. 21, 1935 in Coama, Puerto Rico, where she was raised. She later moved to Chicago and spent most of her life there raising her two daughters, Ines and Evelyn, before moving to West Michigan to be closer to her loved ones.
Ines will be remembered as the fiercely-resilient, strong, independent woman she was. She was an extremely hard worker and took pride in every aspect of her life. She shared her big heart with anyone that was in need or was willing to share a few moments of time with her.
Ines is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Rodriguez (Eddie) and Ines (Alfonso) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Natasha (Mitch) Smith, Joshua Rodriguez, Liz Rodriguez, Nida
Rodgriguez, Emily (Phil) Hoek and Sarah Rodriguez; 11 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Sawyer, Coco, Audrey, Serena, Londyn, Bella, Aliana, Teyo, and Aiyana; sister, Hilda (Trini) Gomez; nieces and nephew Wendy, Janet, and Efrain; many extended family and friends.
A gathering to celebrate Ines’ life was held Saturday, March 29 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland. Burial took place in Zeeland Cemetery.
Marcia Broekhuis, 83
Marcia Broekhuis, 83, of Zeeland, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
Marcia was a longtime member of Drenthe Christian Reformed Church. She retired from Haworth where she worked in client dining. Marcia was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife.
She is survived by her sons, Tim and Gina Broekhuis, and Tom and Robin Broekhuis; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mya Broekhuis, Jacob Broekhuis, Elizabeth and Luke De Blaay (Emmett, Ella, and Jack), and Codey Van Dellen; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Glennys and Hero Broekhuizen, and Paul Brouwer.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her grandson, Gavin Broekhuis; and sister, Nellie Brouwer.
The funeral service for was held Monday, March 31 at Drenthe Christian Reformed Church, 6344 Adams St., Zeeland. Interment was in West Drenthe Cemetery.

Marilyn McNeal, 85
Marilyn (Mudpie) McNeal, 85, of Zeeland, peacefully went to be with God on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Marilyn is remembered and loved for her gentle kindness, support, and wise counsel. Her generosity of spirit and faith extended from her family to those she encountered with daily. Marilyn worked at Donnelly Mirrors/ Magna for 26 years until retiring in 2004.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Timothy) Van Raalte; granddaughter, Ashley (Steve) Van Slooten; grandson, KC McNeal; great-grandsons, Jackson and Theodore Van Slooten; son Todd’s partner, Robert Quesenberry; brother, Ken Elzinga; sisters, Monty Elzinga and Laurie (Timothy) Sweet; and sister-in-law, Jayne Elzinga.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Kathryn Elzinga; her two sons, Michael McNeal and Todd McNeal; grandson, Justin Van Raalte; brothers, Gary Elzinga and Jack Elzinga; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Ken) Elzinga and Roseanna (Gary) Elzinga..
Marilyn was laid to rest privately at Port Sheldon Township Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to staff at Royal Park Atrium Inn and to Hospice of Holland.

Irma Mokma, 87
Irma Jean Mokma, 87, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Holland Hospital.
Irma Ponstein was born in Beaverdam on May 6, 1937 to her parents, William and Marie Ponstein, who owned and operated a dairy farm. She was the first of eight children in the Ponstein family. She graduated in the first class of Unity Christian High School in 1954, a total class of 25 students.
After graduation from high school, she was employed by Holland Furnace Company where she met her husband, Terry Mokma. They married on Dec. 14, 1957 and settled in Holland. Irma was later employed with DeWaard Interiors and Donnelly Corporation, retiring in 2000.
Irma was a member of Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church since 1958. Her church was of great importance to her and she served in various positions and activities over the years.
Irma was preceded in death by her siblings, Hollis Ponstein and in-laws; Dino and Sharon Comel, Edward Kamara, Barb Ponstein, Jim and Vonnie Mokma, Kenneth Somers, and Norman Reed; and a nephew, Darren Mokma.
Irma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Terry Mokma of Holland; children, David Mokma of Holland and Sally Mokma (William Naylor Jr.) of Fruitport; grandchildren, Cortney (Pete) Fallon, Chelsea (Patrick) Bosgraaf, Emma Jean (Benjamin) Perfect, Isaac (Allison) Bytwerk and Nathaniel Bytwerk; siblings, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Somers, William (Sheryl) Ponstein, Laura Ponstein, Mary L. (Edward and Norman) Reed, Timothy (Barb) Ponstein, Hollis (Maxine) Ponstein and Paul (Mary) Ponstein; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, at Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church, 14 W. 14th St., Holland, with Rev. Benj Petroelje officiating. Burial was in Beaverdam Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holland Christian Schools and/or Muskegon Christian Schools.
Joyce Kortering, 87
Joyce Kortering, 87, of Zeeland, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025 after living with dementia for several years.
Formerly of Oakland, Joyce was known and loved for creating community through food. Joyce served with the Zeeland Public Schools food service staff for more than 25 years.
A charter member of Community Reformed Church, Joyce led their pig-in-the-blanket fundraisers, volunteered her time coordinating lunches for many funerals, and made the Wednesday Night Suppers for years.
Surviving is her husband of 68 years, Ernest (Ernie) Kortering; children, Randy and Sue Kortering, Larry and Pat Kortering, Lisa and Jeff Gabier, and Richelle and Jon Hofman; grandchildren, Stephanie and Carl Bussema, Matt and Christina Kortering, Katie and Adam Hukkala, Taylor Hofman and Brianna Hofman; and great-granddaughter, Esther Kortering.
Joyce was preceded in death by her grandson, Alexander (Alec) Gabier; her parents, John and Jennie Broekhuis; brother, Alvin Broekhuis; sister, Christal Broekhuis; sister and brother-in-law, Grada and Henry Voetberg; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leona and Laverne Kortering.
A funeral service was held Friday, March 28, at Community Reformed Church, 10376 Felch St., Zeeland.
