Seng Kaing, 81
Seng Hang Kaing, 81, of Zeeland, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Send was born in Battambang, Cambodia on March 19, 1944 to father Hee Lim and mother Tan Huoy. He grew up with his sister Kiev and Peter. He has now joined his brother Robert in watching over the family.
Seng was a French professor in Cambodia, then became the principal. When the war broke out, he enlisted in the army and became a captain. Trying to escape the genocide, he stopped to help people along the way. I believe his niece, Top, still owes him a doll she promised him for carrying her. In the refugee camps in Thailand, his education allowed him to help hundreds of families fill out their documents.
After landing in America and knowing the importance of education, he enrolled in Truman College, where he got his degree and was able to secure a good job at English Bay Company, where he worked as an ingredient supply coordinator, the only non-related employee entrusted with the secret ingredient. He worked there until he retired at 70 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kheang Khean; and his daughters, Cheata Lor, Mik Kaing, and Mary Kaing. He is now reunited with his two sons, Chet and Khann. He has five grandchildren; Maleena, Chet, Bryton, Eva, and Hazel.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25 at the Northwood Chapel.
