Luis Avila is re-appointed to GRAM board of trustees


Varnum attorney Luis Avila has been re-appointed to the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) Board of Trustees for 2025.

Avila is a partner on Varnum’s Labor and Employment Practice Team. With more than a decade of experience in labor and employment matters, he counsels public and private sector employers on a wide variety of workplace matters, including state and federal employment litigation, effective employee handbooks and policies, disciplinary and dispute resolution procedures, discrimination, disability accommodation, wage-hour matters, family medical leave, harassment and litigation prevention.

He is experienced in traditional labor matters, including grievances, arbitrations, collective bargaining negotiations, and union drives. He has tried cases before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC).

Avila also serves on the boards of the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Rapids Symphony and the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Law Section.

He is an active member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Avila earned his J.D. from Michigan Law School where he was a Dean’s Public Service Fellow; and his B.A. with honors in Business from Calvin College.

Leisman named among Notable Litigators


Mika Meyers’ member, Ross A. Leisman, was recently selected for inclusion in Crain’s Notable Litigators and Trial Attorneys.

He specializes in commercial litigation, bank disputes, land use and municipal law.

Leisman earned his undergrad degree, with honors, from Calvin College; and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Michigan Law School.
