AgeWell Services has made the difficult decision to close the Wellness Center and Driftwood Café at Tanglewood Park, with final operations ending May 22. This decision comes after a thorough evaluation of budget constraints, inflationary pressure, ongoing financial losses, and uncertainty surrounding federal funding.
"This was not an easy choice, but it is necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of our vital meal and transportation programs," said Executive Director Kris VanderStelt. "We remain committed to serving older adults in our community in meaningful ways. While this chapter is closing, we are adapting to continue providing essential services to vulnerable seniors."
The Driftwood Café will close, but the Driftwood Discount Dining program will continue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 560 Seminole Rd. Norton Shores, MI 49444 from 4-6 p.m.
Driftwood catering services will still be available through AgeWell Services.
The Wellness Center will close, but Senior Center Activities will expand through Lunch & Activity Centers and at other various partner locations.
Support will be provided to help participants transition to other local programs.
AgeWell Services is dedicated to adjusting and expanding other services to continue supporting older adults across Oceana, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties; and looks forward to bringing the community new programming in the near future.
Founded in 1973, AgeWell Services of West Michigan is a private nonprofit offering essential programs including five food access programs (Discount Dine, Farm Fresh Bags, Healthy Harvest Kits, Lunch & Activity Centers and Meals on Wheels), SafeSeniors, Senior Center Activities and Senior Medical Transportation. With the support of a three-county Board of Directors, a programming advisory committee, 90 team members, and 300 annual volunteers, AgeWell Services supports over 10,000 older adults annually through different programs that provide healthy, nutritious food, critical transportation, wellness opportunities and fosters community connections that enhance the quality of life for older adults.
