‘Peacemaker Art’

Retired Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Timothy P. Connors is flanked by Tribal-State-Federal Judicial Forum co-chairs Jeff Nellis, chief judge in Mason and Oceana County courts, and Angela Sherigan, chief judge of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, who presented Connors with an original artwork the Forum commissioned in his honor. Connors retired last December after serving on the bench since 1991. The painting, of a tribal peacemaking circle, was created by Cynthia Kilmer, wife of Bruce Kilmer, retired SCAO Region Three Court Administrator.  The inscription recognizes Judge Connors as Michigan’s judicial peacemaker. Connors worked to incorporate peacemaking into his judicial practice, and has been instrumental leading efforts in the State of Michigan to encourage and foster cross-court cooperation between state, federal and tribal courts. He has been a statewide, and a national leader in this area and a champion of restorative justice.
