Arlene Dykstra, 93
Arlene Marilyn (Hoogland) Dykstra, 93, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Arlene was born on Oct. 22, 1931, and grew up in Zeeland. She graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1949. Arlene married Martin J. Dykstra and they were blessed with forty-one years of marriage until Martin’s passing in 1993.
She was a charter member of Haven Christian Reformed Church, where she sang in the church choir and served on various committees. Arlene loved music and attended many concerts. Well into her 90’s, she
sang hymns and played piano by ear to the amazement of the staff and residents of Freedom Village.
She and her husband, Martin, founded Holland Motor Homes Corporation in 1970. Her husband preceded her in death along with her parents, Frank and Margaret Hoogland; brothers, John Hoogland and Les Hoogland; sister, Eleanor Borr, and all of her in-laws.
Arlene is survived by her children, John and Pat Dykstra, Jack and Janet Dykstra, Mike and Melissa Dykstra, and Marcia and Larry Genzink; grandchildren, Amy and Mitch Disselkoen, Sara and Tim Monsma, Rachel and Ryan Deters, Patrick Dykstra, Tracy Dykstra, Michael and Tiffany Dykstra, Martin and Morgan Dykstra, Michelle and Ben Kasper, Mark and Lauren Genzink, and Katherine and Luke Panning; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A private family celebration of Arlene’s life is planned.

Claudia Stover, 78
Claudia (Ott) Stover, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
The oldest of three children, Claudia was born on Oct. 4, 1946 to Raymond and Alvina (Brueck) Ott in Benton Harbor. While attending Lakeshore High School, she met her one and only love, Dave Stover. They were married on April 8, 1967, and raised two daughters, Laura and Lisa.
Claudia graduated with an associate’s degree from Lake Michigan College in 1966. After 20 years, she made the brave decision to pursue her bachelor’s degree. She graduated magna cum laude from Western Michigan University in 1987 with a degree in business administration.
In her prime, she was an avid golfer who enjoyed competition and spent many years golfing with her family at Kalamazoo Country Club. She was a passionate supporter of Hope College and the University of Michigan athletics.
Dave and Claudia lived the American dream. They started their lives together in a one-bedroom apartment above a plumbing store in Jackson and retired to a beautiful home in Holland. She wanted to have a home with enough room for any child, grandchild, or great-grandchild who would visit. Dave and Claudia lived their wedding vows to the fullest, “For better, for worse; for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health.”
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dave; daughters, Laura (Stover) Rosado (Raymond Rosado), and Lisa Stover; grandsons, Mason Rosado (Hannah (Lynn) Rosado) and Reed Rosado; great-grandson, Isaiah Rosado; brother, Steven Ott (Julie Ott). She was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Ott, and her parents, Raymond and Alvina Ott.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 30 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a designated memorial gift in Claudia Stover’s name to Van Andel Institute, where funds will further Dr. Clifford Cho’s laboratory and work.
Arlene Schoon, 85
Arlene Blance Cizek Schoon, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in Holland, and now rests in the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ.
Arlene was born in Chicago, to Marie (Mae) and George Cizek, and grew up in Stickney, Ill., graduating from J. Sterling Morton High School in 1957. Arlene grew up in a close-knit family who enjoyed celebrating holidays and other family traditions. She carried these inclusive, celebratory traditions into adulthood, relishing time spent with family and friends.
Arlene, the first to attend college, continued her education at Hope College, graduating with bachelor’s degrees in English and psychology and her master’s degree from Purdue University. While at Hope she met her husband of 63 years, Dale Schoon, who had just returned from serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Dale and Arlene were married at Trinity Reformed Church in Munster, Ind. in 1962 where they remained members until they moved out of the area. Arlene taught elementary school for 26 years, teaching and loving countless students always bringing her joyful spirit into the classroom. She loved her church community and served on endless boards and committees as well as taught Sunday School. She was ordained and installed as the first female elder at Trinity Reformed Church.
Arlene is survived by her devoted spouse, Dale Schoon; children, David (Lisa) Schoon and Leslie (Marc) Monday; grandsons, Van Monday and Beckett Monday; brother, Chuck (Deb) Cizek; sister-in-law, Mary Kay (Jon Mark) Schoon; nephews and nieces, Tyler (Ellen) Cizek, Juliana Cizek, J.R. (Jilanne) Schoon, Kathryn (Joel) Schoon-Tanis, and Gretchen (Phil Tanis) Schoon-Tanis; and nine great-grandnieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mae Cizek; in-laws, John A. Schoon, Vera Schoon and Anne Schoon; brother-in-law, Jon Mark Schoon, and her niece-in-law, Michele Sterk Schoon.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 12 noon at First Reformed Church, 630 State St. in Holland, with a two-hour visitation prior to the service starting at 10 a.m.

Judy Nykamp, 81
Judy Nykamp, age 81, of Holland, died Saturday, July 26, 2025.
She was a member of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church. Judy was a longstanding member of Holland Garden Club. She was also a judge for flower shows throughout the state. She wrote the horticulture column for the Holland Sentinel as well as articles for Thru the Garden Gate for many years.
Judy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wade; children, Michelle and Mark Kooyers, Melinda Nykamp and Pam Whitehead, Melissa and Steve Mulder; grandchildren, Mitch (Val) Kooyers, Marissa (Mitch) Neubert, Micah (Kara) Kooyers, Marcie (Macall) Smith, Annie Nykamp-Whitehead, Nick Nykamp-Whitehead, Hannah (Erik) Johnson, Ben (Kate) Mulder and Andrew (Abbi) Mulder; 11 great-grandchildren; in-laws, Wes (Lucy) Nykamp and Randy (Jan) Nykamp; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30 at Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 259 Central Ave. Holland, with Rev. Chad Steenwyk officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Jeffrey Streur, 43
Jeffrey Streur, 43, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, following a tragic vehicle accident while working.
Jeff was a friendly soul. He loved nature and spending time in his boat by the river where he found “peace”. He had a contagious laugh, a trademark smile, and a big heart. He was proud of his career, how it served the public, and was a dedicated worker for Consumers Energy where he had a strong relationship with his fellow union brotherhood.
He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Addyson Jewel Streur; father, James Streur; grandfather, Frank Kamphuis; and stepfather, James Rutledge.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Streur; son, Traeten Streur; stepchildren, Braylon, Benjamin and Addyson; parents, Kim and Jim McDonough; brother, Michael and Sandy Streur; mother-in-law, Ann Rutledge; sisters-in- law, Rebecca (Jim Merleau) Rutledge and Diana Rutledge; nephews, Nicholas (Ian) VanSpronsen and Justin Streur; nieces, Brenna Streur and Kiana and Kyle Meschke (Kieko); grandparents, Mary and Fred Pathuis; and extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at North Holland Reformed Church, 12050 New Holland St., with Rev. Steven DeVries officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. to noon, prior to the service, at North Holland Reformed Church.

David Frens, 81
David Bruce Frens M.D., 81, of Zeeland, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
David was born May 26, 1944, in Grand Rapids to Howard and Ruth (Jurgens) Frens. David graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, Calvin College, and the University of Michigan Medical School. He became a pediatric neurologist and practiced for 25 years at the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin.
David married Sheila Lynne Meeuwsen in 1966, and they raised four daughters together. He also served active duty in the U.S. Air Force 1976-1978 and served as a reservist for eight years. His wife, Sheila, preceded him in death in 2022.
He is survived by his daughters, Danielle (Stephan) Hilbelink, Bethany Frens, Adrea (Simon) Nakatani and Courtney (Jason) Multerer; grandchildren, Tessa Lander, Taylor Lander, Taeden Nakatani, Garrett (Grace) Hilbelink, Emma (Aaron) Bos, Miles Hilbelink, Calvin Hilbelink, Stella Multerer and Zander Multerer; great-granddaughter, Josie Hilbelink; siblings, Mary and (Robert) Dykstra and Robert (Lynn) Frens; sister-in-law, Barbara Meeuwsen, and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland. Visiting hours will be 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Aviation Fellowship (maf.org).
Magdalena Rios, 85
Magdalena “Maria” E. Rios, 85, of Holland, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Maria was a devoted member of Ebenezer Spanish Assemblies of God and retired from Walters Gardens after 39 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, José; children, Joe Jr. Rios, Maria Rios, Mike Rios, Yolanda Rios, and Angelica Rios; grandchildren, Cecilia Rios, Miguel Rios Jr., Roxanne, Jimmy Phanthourath, Jacob, Amanda Rios, Jessica, Tom Ortega and Elias Jr. Gonzales; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita, and her husband Joe Guzman, along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Thursday, July 24, at Ebenezer Spanish Assemblies of God, 157 W. 10th St., Holland. Burial was in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Cross.
Dorothy Hofman, 88
Dorothy Mae Hofman, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in Zeeland.
Dorothy was born in Zeeland July 22, 1936 to Albert and Katie (VanHarn) Hofman. She worked as a teacher her entire life, educating children at Rose Park Christian School and Sylvan Christian School throughout her career.
Dorothy was a member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids and volunteered for the Holland Home and LaGrave Avenue Church, mentoring for Kids Hope and visiting homebound members.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Dale (Nancy) Hofman and John (Marcia) Hofman; cousins, Lois (Ed) Hoeksema and Wendell (Karen) Hofman; seven nieces and nephews; many great-nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial celebration of Dorothy’s life was held on Wednesday, July 30 at LaGrave Avenue CRC, 107 LaGrave Ave., Grand Rapids. Burial took place in Zeeland Cemetery.
