Zeeland Record
Step back in time and learn more about stories from Zeeland’s past as the Zeeland Historical Society hosts its historic home tour next month.
The self-guided tour will take Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will give visitors an opportunity to see the inside of some of Zeeland’s most beautiful and historic private homes. Tickets are now on sale, with early bird pricing ending next Thursday, Aug. 14.
From cozy Craftsman-style bungalows to elegant Tudor homes, each residence tells a unique story about the people and design that have shaped the city’s neighborhoods throughout its history.
“This tour is a rare opportunity to explore the interiors of historic Zeeland homes that are usually only admired from the sidewalk,” historical society executive director Katelyn VerMerris said. “We are so thankful to the homeowners willing to open their doors and bring neighbors and history lovers together in a fun and meaningful way.”
Visitors will receive a full guidebook on the day of the tour and may visit the homes at their own pace.
“These homes represent a spectrum of architectural styles found throughout Zeeland,” historical society curator Audrey Rojo said. “Some have been carefully restored, while others have been modernized — but together, they tell a compelling story of how adaptive architecture continues to serve and reflect the needs of a growing community.”
Participating homes in the tour include:
• 62 E. Central Ave., owned by Marcia Wirth, built in 1908
• 350 E. Central Ave., owned by Patty Peirce, built in 1902
• 510 E. Central Ave., owned by Mike and Amy Langeland, built in 1911
• 36 W. Central Ave., owned by Steve and Debbie Albert, built in 1927

• 37 E. Main Ave. (Dekker Huis Museum), built in 1876
• 131 S. Maple St., owned by Jacob Bonnema, built in 1875/ 1879
Discounted early bird tickets are available for $25 through Aug. 14. After that date, ticket prices increase to $30. Tickets can be purchased online at zeelandhistory .org/events-exhibits/ or in person at the Dekker Huis Museum, 37 E. Main Ave.
