A Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting was held August 28 at Jackson Friendly Home, celebrating the renovation of the dining area. Established in 1878 in a small home on Oak Hill, the original "Home of the Friendless" opened to widows and children of Civil War era veterans. The current building and grounds, at 435 W. North St., were established in 1908, and are considered to be historic icons. The home has 45 residents and a waiting list. Administrator Carrie A. Good has been involved with this home and the John George Home for men in Jackson since 2004.
