Attorney Amy J. Durant joins Dykema’s Lansing office

Amy J. Durant has joined Dykema’s Lansing office as Senior Counsel in its Regulatory and Financial Services Team. She comes to Dykema after a decade at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and brings extensive experience working in bank regulatory and consumer finance law.

At the CFPB, Durant was a key member of teams responsible for drafting and implementing significant regulations. She led numerous regulatory implementation initiatives to develop compliance resources for industry stakeholders across a broad range of products, including mortgage lending and servicing, consumer lending, small business lending, debt collection, payday lending, prepaid accounts, and automated valuation models. 

She also collaborated on matters involving auto lending, buy now–pay later products, credit reporting, fair lending, and remittances.

Prior to her government service, Durant led the bank regulatory and consumer finance practice for a business law firm, where she worked for 19 years. She advised banks, credit unions, and other financial service companies on a wide range of matters involving state and federal consumer finance laws, state licensing laws, federal banking laws, privacy and information security requirements, and fair lending requirements. Durant collaborated with clients regarding the development of consumer and small business lending products, deposit products and services, and card and payment products, and helped clients successfully resolve operational issues.

Durant is a frequent speaker at events for financial institutions and has spoken regularly at Michigan Bankers Association (MBA) conferences. 

She has presented seminars on issues related to directors' liability and various regulatory and operational issues, including deposits, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and privacy issues. 

Durant received her juris doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and a B.A. from Michigan State University.
