Five people were injured, one critically, in a fiery crash Dec. 17 at the intersection of Tyler Street and 96th Avenue.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, a silver Honda Accord driven by a 60-year-old Olive Township man was headed westbound on Tyler when it failed to stop for the stop sign at 96th. The Honda collided with a black Ford Escape, driven by a 39-year-old West Olive man, that was headed northbound on 96th.
Both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the west side of the roadway, and the Ford caught fire. The driver of the Ford and three passengers, including an 8-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries, but were able to exit the vehicle on their own, Sgt. Chris Armstrong of the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Honda was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the sheriff’s office, Blendon Township Fire and Trinity Health EMS. He was initially transported to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital, then airlifted via Aeromed to a Grand Rapids hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
