Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has named Michigan Law alumnus Andrew Lievense to the First District of the Court of Appeals.
An assistant United States attorney, Lievense previously worked as an associate at Honigman in Detroit and clerked for U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn.
A resident of Northville, Lievense is a member of the U.S. Courts Committee of the State Bar of Michigan and is a past President of the Federal Bar Association. He has volunteered with many local civic organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit.
"I am honored to serve the people of Michigan as a judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals, and grateful to Governor Whitmer for the responsibility she has entrusted to me," said Lievense.
This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Kirsten Frank Kelly. Judge Lievense’s term will expire at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2027.
Lievense holds a Bachelor of Arts in politics and government and Spanish from Ohio Wesleyan University and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
