Philip A. Schaedler
April 17, 1954 - March 28, 2026
Attorney Philip Allen “Phil” Schaedler, died Saturday, March 28, 2026, after receiving exceptional end-of-life care from the neurology department at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Schaedler graduated from Blissfield High School in 1972 before continuing his education at Michigan State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1977. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo in 1982.
For many years Schaedler worked in risk management, first in Michigan then in North Carolina.
He spent later years in private practice and then found his niche working in mediation. He was a member of the Dispute Resolution Center of Washtenaw County as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association.
He was the SBM ADR Section Diversity and Inclusion Action Team Co-Chair. His practice in Tecumseh centered on alternative dispute resolution in both general civil and domestic relations cases. He was a trained practitioner in the areas of facilitative and evaluative mediation, arbitration and collaborative law. He was one of 20 SCAO certified trainers in general civil mediation and a certified trainer in restorative conferencing, neglect and abuse mediation and circle keeping. He was a licensed member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan for 40 years and a member of PREMi since its inception.
A celebration of Schaedler’s life will take place 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, April 17 at The Ashlar in Tecumseh. A service will take place at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dispute Resolution Center of Washtenaw County or the University of Michigan Hospital Department of Neurology.
