University of Michigan Law School alumna Kathryn (Katy) Susan Wood, 57, of Bloomfield Hills, died March 20.
During undergrad at U-M, Wood was a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega and a cast member of the Michigan Comedy Company.
A Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and a Michigan Super Lawyer, Wood worked for three decades for Dickinson Wright in Troy, culminating in her role as General Counsel.
As a member partner, she had focused her practice on employment litigation, commercial litigation and appellate practice, including discrimination, harassment and whistleblower/retaliation claims, class actions, non-compete/non-solicitation matters, defamation clams, contract disputes, fraud claims, and business tort claims.
She was also an experienced advisor to employers regarding employment issues that arise outside of the litigation context.
Prior to attending Michigan Law, Wood volunteered her time building homes for under-privileged families in rural West Virginia and Kentucky with the Appalachia Service Project—advancing to become a regional staff leader.
During her time in Boston, she worked at a civil rights clinic at Harvard University. She also dedicated the first years of her Detroit career at Common Ground, where she was a victim assistance coordinator.
A memorial service was held March 26.
