Educators from the Outdoor Discovery Center presented a program last summer as part of the Howard Miller Library’s Wednesday Park Pop-Ups series. This year’s Park Pop-Ups series begins next Wednesday featuring live reptiles from the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary near Battle Creek, and will continue through the end of July.

With the arrival of summer comes a whole lot of activities for kids and families at the Howard Miller Library.
The library will kick off its Movie Mondays series next Monday with a showing of “Zootopia” at 10 a.m. in the banquet room of the Community Center. Upcoming Movie Mondays showings include “The Good Dinosaur” on June 15, “The Smurfs” on June 22 and “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” on June 29, with all showings at 10 a.m.
The library will also sponsor its annual Wednesday Park Pop-Ups events, beginning next Wednesday with a visit from the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary near Battle Creek. Learn about the lives and habitat of alligators with an up-close presentation featuring live reptiles. The event begins at 10 a.m. in the Community Center banquet room.

June 17: Sing Song Yoga at Lawrence Street Park, 10 a.m. Kids are encouraged to come and enjoy a playful yoga session with instructor Deb Weiss-Gelmi, learning poses set to simple, familiar tunes.
June 24: Shenanigans Ponies & Petting Zoo at Lawrence Street Park, 10 a.m. Meet and mingle with friendly goats, fluffy sheep, curious chickens and cuddly bunnies for a barnyard adventure everyone will love.
July 1: White to Wow at Lawrence Street Park, 10 a.m. Ready to turn the park into your personal art studio? Bring any white item to paint and transform it into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Fabric paints and brushes will be supplied – just bring your creativity and get ready to design something bold, colorful, and totally you.
July 8: Kalamazoo Air Zoo Deep Discoveries at Lawrence Street Park, 10 a.m. Step into the shoes of real paleontologists and archaeologists as you uncover the hidden clues they use to piece together our planet’s incredible past. Excavate fossils and artifacts, examine your discoveries up close, and learn what they reveal about dinosaurs, ancient creatures, and the humans who walked the Earth long before us.
July 15: Roar & Read: Live at Community Center banquet room, 10 a.m. Join Mrs. Russell and Miss Jess for a roaring good time as they bring a dino-tastic children’s book to life! Stick around after the stories to enjoy a small snack.
July 22: Outdoor Art Hour at Lawrence Street Park Pavilion, 10 a.m. It’s a prehistoric morning of creativity and fun. Kids can explore a variety of dino-themed make-and-take crafts — perfect for little hands and big imaginations. From scaly creations to Jurassic-inspired masterpieces, there’s plenty of hands-on fun in store. Crafts are geared for children ages 3-7.
July 29: The Brad Lancaster Magic Show at Lawrence Street Park, 10 a.m. The Park Pop-Up Series concludes for the season. Get ready to be amazed by mind-blowing tricks, clever illusions, and plenty of audience interaction that will keep everyone entertained from start to finish.

June 11: Tween Doodles & Donuts in the West Activity Room of the library, 2-3 p.m. Come eat donuts and create fun art. All materials provided. Open to kids entering grades 3-5.
June 16: Teen tiny Canvas Painting, West Activity Room, 6-7 p.m. Bring your creativity and create small masterpieces. All materials provided. Open to those entering grades 6-12.
June 25: Teen Doodles & Donuts, West Activity Room, 2-3 p.m. Come eat donuts and create fun art. All materials provided. Open to those entering sixth through 12th grade.
June 26: Explore Robotics, 10 a.m.-noon in the West Activity Room. Join the Zeeland High Team 85 B.O.B. robotics team for a fun, interactive morning with a working robot. Open to those entering kindergarten through eighth grade.
June 30: Teen Cupcake Decorating with the Pastry Slayer, West Activity Room, 6-7 p.m. Learn fun icing techniques and design beautifully-decorated cupcakes. Open to those entering grades 6-12.
