MLK Corridor Improvement Authority Partnership adds $30,000 toward new home construction

For Jackson residents dreaming of homeownership, a new partnership is creating one of the most significant opportunities yet to build a new home in the city.

Through a partnership between the City of Jackson's 100 Homes Program and the Martin Luther King Jr. Corridor Improvement Authority (MLK-CIA), approved homebuyers who select an eligible lot within the Martin Luther King Jr. Corridor may qualify for an additional $30,000 in down payment assistance.

Combined with existing City of Jackson incentives, eligible buyers may qualify for up to $55,000 in homebuyer assistance, with the opportunity to pursue additional support through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).

The City of Jackson's 100 Homes Program has already helped facilitate the construction of 73 homes, creating new opportunities for families while transforming vacant lots into vibrant neighborhoods throughout the city.

Building on that success, the MLK-CIA is investing in an additional opportunity for homebuyers who choose to build within the Martin Luther King Jr. Corridor.

Only 10 homebuyers can receive the additional $30,000 MLKCIA incentive, and three of those opportunities have already been claimed. The remaining assistance is available on a first-approved, first-served basis until funding is exhausted.

"The MLK Cornerstone Initiative and our 100 Homes partnership create a genuine pathway to homeownership within the MLK Corridor,” explains Chief Equity Officer, John Willis.

“It’s an opportunity for residents and families to invest in themselves and their future in a community on the rise.”

The clock is ticking for prospective homebuyers hoping to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity. Applications must be submitted by July 6, 2026, and available funding is being awarded on a first-approved, first-served basis. With eligible lots moving quickly and program funds required to be committed in 2026, interested buyers are encouraged to begin the application process immediately before this opportunity expires.

The City of Jackson's 100 Homes Program is designed to increase homeownership opportunities and neighborhood investment by supporting the construction of new homes on vacant residential lots throughout the city. Through partnerships with builders, lenders, and community organizations, the program helps make new home construction more accessible and affordable for qualifying buyers.

With up to $55,000 in assistance available, this is one of the largest homeownership incentive opportunities ever available in Jackson. Interested homebuyers are encouraged to begin the approval process as soon as possible, as available lots and funding are limited.
