‘Made in Zeeland’ Exhibit Opens Friday Night at Dekker Huis Museum

The Zeeland Historical Society will open its newest permanent exhibit, “Made in Zeeland,” this Friday at the Dekker Huis Museum.

The exhibit, which celebrates the history and legacy of Zeeland's furniture industry, will begin with a special Sip, Savor & Discover celebration at the museum.

Made possible through grant support from the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council and the Furniture Manufacturers Heritage Advised Fund, “Made in Zeeland” explores the furniture industry that helped transform Zeeland into the thriving manufacturing community it is today.

The exhibit features artifacts from MillerKnoll, Colonial Manufacturing Company, Sligh Furniture, Trend Clocks, Howard Miller, H. L. Hubbell, Zeeland Furniture, and other local manufacturers. Through furniture, clocks, photographs, advertisements, catalogs, and other historic objects, visitors will discover how Zeeland's manufacturers combined craftsmanship, innovation, and entrepreneurship to build companies whose influence reached far beyond West Michigan.

“The furniture industry truly put Zeeland on the map,” said Audrey Rojo, interim director and curator of the Zeeland Historical Society. “These companies helped establish manufacturing as a foundation of our local economy. Their innovation, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit helped shape the Zeeland we know today.”

The evening begins with an exclusive Members & Partners Preview Hour from 5 to 6 p.m., offered complimentary as a thank-you to Zeeland Historical Society members and community partners. The event opens to the public from 6 to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and include museum admission, appetizers, and a glass of wine or a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage.

Public tickets are available now. For more information or to register, visit the Zeeland Historical Society website, zeelandhistory.org or call (616) 772-4079.
