David Vander Zwaag, 77
David Glen Vander Zwaag, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
David was born on Feb. 16, 1949, in Zeeland to Paul and Florence Vander Zwaag. As the oldest of three children, he grew up on the farm alongside his two sisters and graduated from West Ottawa High School. Following graduation, he attended Andrews University for a short period of time, studying agriculture, before beginning a lifetime of hard work and service to others.
David served in the Michigan National Guard for 10 years, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a dedicated businessman and entrepreneur, owning and operating Tulip City Standard, Tulip City Towing, and B&J Towing. Later in life, he returned to one of his greatest passions, working on the family farm, Crisp Country Acres, where he found immense joy in farming and delivering produce.
Those who knew David will remember his incredible sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh. He had a gift for bringing smiles to people, even during difficult times.
Above all else, David loved his family. He cherished his wife, Kimberly, who was not only his partner of nearly 30 years but also his best friend. Their years together were filled with love, friendship, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who found great joy in the people he loved.
David was also a man of deep and abiding faith. He loved Jesus, found comfort and strength in God’s Word, and faithfully relied on the Lord throughout every season of his life. David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kimberly Vander Zwaag; children, Dan (Patti) Vander Zwaag, Debbie (Jarade) Olson, Matthew (Amber) Baumann, and Kaycee Kay; grandchildren, Gracelynn Olson, Garrett Olson, Jacob Vander Zwaag, Madeline (Isrrael Torres) Vander Zwaag, Ava Baumann, Kaydence Braden, Raygen Braden, Gannon Braden, and Mayzee Braden; mother-in-law, Sharon Forgette; brother-in-law, Scott (Renee) Wagenmaker; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul (Florence) Visser; sisters, Carol Lampers and Mari (Doug) Visser; father-in-law, Kenneth Wagenmaker; brother-in-law, Kenneth Dale Wagenmaker; and step father-in-law, Charles Forgette.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 4 at West Olive Church, 8374 First Ave.
Glen Perkin, 84
Glen Richard Perkin, 84, of Hudsonville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Glen graduated from Holt High School and the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. Glen attended Wellspring Community Church in Hudsonville. He was active in his former churches where he taught Sunday school, led singing, helped at Christmas programs and was an usher.
Glen enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, camping and he also walked the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day for several years. Prior to his retirement, Glen worked at H.H. Cutler as an accountant; he was a self-employed insurance agent and the owner of Perkin RV Center.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen; children, Christine and Ronald Feenstra, Mark and Lori Perkin, and Brian Perkin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Zachary Feenstra and his fiancé Chelsea Eisen, Jason and Sage Feenstra (Ezra and Asa), Ellyse and Thade Radosa, Abigail Perkin, Matthew Perkin, Sabina Perkin and Caden Perkin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Interim Hospice and The Oaks at Jamestown for their wonderful care, friendship, and support over the past several months.
The funeral service to honor Glen’s life will be held Friday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at Wellspring Community Church, 4466 Bauer Rd., Hudsonville. Interment will be in Floral View Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m., also at the church.

Wilma Busscher, 99
Wilma Busscher, 99, of Zeeland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Wilma was born April 20, 1927, in Zeeland to Frank and Della (Idema) Walters. Wilma met Kenneth Busscher and they married June 11, 1947. Wilma and Ken raised their family in Zeeland and ran the family contracting business Busscher Builders. Wilma and Ken were also longtime members of North Street Christian Reformed Church.
Wilma was preceded in death by Ken in 2004; her son, Wayne Busscher, in 2024; daughter-in-law, Luanne Busscher, in 2026; and great-granddaughter, Grace Busscher in 2008.
She is survived by her children, Larry and Peg Busscher, Jack Busscher, Val Busscher, Nancy and Norm Hoekstra, Kel and Kim Busscher, Rita and Jeff Austhof, and Mark and Ruth Busscher; 22 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; brother, Jason Walters, and her sisters-in-law, Lillian Busscher and Rose Busscher.
The service to honor the faith and life of Wilma was held Saturday, Aug. 1 at North Street Christian Reformed Church, 20 E. Main Ave., Zeeland. Interment was in Zeeland Cemetery.

Millie Bartels, 83
Millie Bartels, 83, of Zeeland, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Millie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bruce; her children, Brian and Lauri Bartels, Nancy and Rob Tasma, Thom and Tricia Bartels, and Chad and Sue Bartels; grandchildren, Ben and Hannah Bartels, Anna and Alec Lopez, Allie and Isaiah Prindle, Bobby Tasma, Mila Tasma, Tessa and Josiah Nosser, Tara Bartels and her son Amir, Ty Bartels, Abby Bartels, Ava Bartels and Jonah Bartels; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Diane Bartels, Lynn and Les Bull, David and Barbara Bartels, Christine and Dan Taylor, Bill and Kathy Bartels, and Pat and Steve Brinks; and many nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her siblings, Willis and Alverna Timmer, Marie Timmer, Gertrude Timmer, Henrietta Timmer, Winifred and Marvin Van Kampen, and Esther and Roger Koning.
Millie was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Zeeland, and she was a hostess at Russ’ Eastown for 46 years.
The funeral service to honor Millie was held Monday, Aug. 3 at Faith Reformed Church, 220 W. Central Ave., Zeeland. Interment was in Zeeland Cemetery.

Jean Hutt, 93
Jean A. Hutt, 93, of Holland, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Holland Hospital following a short illness.
Jean was born on March 31, 1933 in Grundy Center, Iowa to Anthony and Evangeline Sinke. The family soon thereafter relocated to Portage, Mich. Jean graduated from Portage Central High School in 1951.
Jean took a nearby office job at the Schuring Insurance Agency, where she met Bernie Hutt who eventually ended up asking Jean out on a date, leading to their wedding on Sept. 5, 1952.
They settled down on a vegetable farm outside of Fennville where they welcomed four children into the family. In 1973, the family moved to Holland where Jean took a job at First Michigan Bank while Bernie helped co-found Hutt Trucking.
Jean was a member of Hamilton Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bernard Hutt, in 2011; son, Paul Hutt, in 2009; and a brother, Stanley Sinke.
Jean is survived by her children, Cheryl (Mike) Buckley of Caledonia, Kathryn Hutt of Grandville and James (Ellen) Hutt of Holland; daughter-in-law, Shawnda Hutt Brewer of Zeeland; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandra Sinke of Marshall; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Quincy Place as they held a special place in her heart.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 2 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St., Holland, with Rev. TJ South officiating. Burial was in Zeeland Cemetery.
