EAST LANSING, Mich. — Nicole Evans, the court administrator for 54-B District Court in East Lansing, has been certified as a fellow of the Institute for Court Management (ICM) at the National Center for State Courts.
The ICM Fellows Program is the premier leadership program for court professionals in the United States. ICM Fellows complete a rigorous four-step process that measures an individual’s aptitude in court management, research and executive leadership through three levels of certification. Evans joins 20 other recent program graduates and more than 1,300 alumni who represent 49 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and 13 foreign countries.
During the 16-month program, Evans took courses, completed a residency in Williamsburg, Virginia, and authored a thesis titled “Automatic Sealing of Michigan’s Non-Conviction Court Records.”
On July 10, Evans joined the 55th Fellows Class in Washington, D.C., for a graduation ceremony at the United States Supreme Court.
“Nicole Evans is a model of a lifelong learner. She is always working to become a stronger and more innovative leader for the Court and the community. I congratulate her on this huge accomplishment!” said 54-B District Court Chief Judge Molly Hennessey Greenwalt.
“I care deeply about access to justice and the court’s role on a user’s experience,” Evans said. “A phone inquiry about the public accessibility of a dismissed case triggered a desire to understand the inequity between the timeframe for expunging eligible convictions and the 100-year retention period for all public court cases, including dismissals. The ICM Fellows program gave me a platform to turn that interest into data-driven research and tangible solutions. I am incredibly grateful for the support of my judges, court staff, colleagues and family. I could not have completed this program without them.”
