The Holland/Zeeland Community Labor Day Truck Parade will begin Monday from the parking lot of MillerKnoll out onto Fairview Road, with the parade ending at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place.

Twenty years ago, community leaders in Zeeland and Holland came together to put together a Labor Day event honoring local workers.
Next Monday, the annual Holland/Zeeland Community Labor Day Truck Parade returns, with trucks from at least 80 West Michigan businesses expected to participate.
“It recognizes the labor that we have in the West Michigan area,” said Zeeland Mayor Pro Tem Sally Gruppen, who is part of the board that organizes the parade. “It’s pretty phenomenal when you (think of) how many workers we have in this area.”
Trucks will begin rolling out from the MillerKnoll parking lot at 9:15 a.m. out onto Fairview Road, and are expected to reach the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place about a half-hour later. Gruppen said that the parade route in Zeeland has been changed this year with Washington Avenue replacing Main Avenue as the main east-to-west route through the city because of the ongoing Church Street reconstruction project.
Once the trucks arrive in downtown Holland, visitors can enjoy free ice cream and check out the many trucks from local companies that will be on display. The event will run until 11:30 a.m.
“The (companies represented by the) trucks all set up tables. They have lots of trinkets and giveaways from each of their corporations,” Gruppen said.
The parade route is as follows:
• Trucks leave MillerKnoll on North Fairview Road at 9:15 a.m.
• Turn north on North Fairview
• Turn left onto East Washington Avenue
• At the traffic circle, continue west on West Main Avenue
• Continue west on Chicago Drive
• Turn left onto 112th Avenue
• Turn right onto I-196 Business Loop West
• Continue west on Chicago Drive into Holland
• Continue west on East 8th Street
• Turn left onto Pine Avenue
• Turn right onto West 9th Street
• Turn right onto Maple Avenue
• Trucks arrive at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place at approx. 9:45am
The parade is organized annually by the Holland/Zeeland Community Labor Day Truck Parade Foundation, a nonprofit organization that was created in 2011 to develop the event each year. As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the local workforce and future talent, the foundation has partnered with local technical schools to provide annual scholarships to deserving students. This initiative helps students further their education, pursue meaningful career paths, and confidently move into the labor force.
