Zeeland’s annual fall festival, Pumpkinfest, gets underway tonight and runs through Saturday.

It’s the return of a tradition that dates back more than four decades. This year’s theme is “Gone Country.”

Events kick off tonight at 5 p.m. with Dinner on Us – a collaborative effort between Zeeland Festivals, Frank’s Restaurant and Tyson Foods. The first 1,000 attendees for Dinner on Us receive a free meal.

Meanwhile, starting at 6 p.m., visitors will be able to stroll through the Avenue of Art Walk, starting from Tripelroot. They can check out the various art pieces that are on display downtown and meet the artists behind them.

Pumpkinfest features something for everyone, including face painting, obstacle courses, tractor pulls, a petting zoo, line dancing, live entertainment, and senior bingo.

Kidzfest begins on Friday at 11 a.m. and runs through Saturday at 6 p.m, with games and activities for kids. Among the kids activities is the ever-popular tractor pull, which will take place at 4 p.m. along Elm Street between Main Avenue and Cherry Avenue.
Signup for the pull begins at 3 p.m.

On Friday night, the community is invited to Dessert on Us - free donuts and cider for the first 1,000 guests starting at 5 p.m., in front of Zeeland Bakery, courtesy of Royal Atrium Inn and Royal Park Place.

The West Michigan Vintage Tractor Club will have its annual display of vintage tractors from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday along Main.

On Saturday morning, the Zeeland Community Band will perform at 11 a.m. at The Bridge Youth Center. At noon, it’s the Great BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) Roll at the Zeeland Christian School hill. The Pumpkinfest Pet Show will take place at 1 p.m. at the Main Stage at the corner of Church Street and Main – dress your pet up in costume.

The festival’s climax will be is the annual Pumpkinfest parade at 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring colorful floats, community groups, and lively marching bands.

The parade will follow a scenic route throughout Zeeland, starting at the intersection of Centennial Street and Main. From there, it will travel south on Centennial, then turn west onto Central Avenue before continuing south on Elm. Once on Elm, the parade will proceed south until it turns east onto Lincoln Avenue. Finally, it will continue east on Lincoln until it reaches Maple Street.
