Zeeland Township Launches Master Plan Online Survey

Zeeland Township leaders want to hear from residents on what they want the township to look like in the future.

Residents are expected today to receive in the mail the latest township newsletter, which includes information about an online survey that will aid township staff and officials in updating the township’s master plan, a document that will guide future decisions on land use, development and preserving local agriculture.

Questions in the survey address such issues as what kind of new housing is needed in the township, whether the township should consider using general fund tax dollars or seek a dedicated millage to support farmland preservation, and what kind of new businesses are wanted in the township.

Residents can scan the QR code on the newsletter to find the survey. Printed surveys are also available at the Township Hall.

In addition, the township is planning to host community workshops later this fall and winter on topics such as farmland preservation, housing and energy facilities/data centers, as part of the master plan process.

A township committee recently completed its work on the master plan update, and has now turned over discussions on the update to the township Planning Commission. Commissioners are expected to devote significant time over the next several months to the master plan, starting with their next meeting Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall.
