Downes joins Varnum's estate planning practice

Grand Rapids –  Varnum is pleased to announce that attorney Jamie A. Downes has joined the firm as an associate in the firm's estate planning group, practicing in the firm's Grand Rapids office.

Downes has a unique background. She formerly served as a senior clerk at a Chicago-based boutique firm focused on trust and estate matters. She also served a lengthy internship with the Law Offices of Chicago-Kent Tax Clinic, where she negotiated settlements with revenue agents, appeals officers and attorneys of the IRS and Department of Justice. Most recently, Downes was an associate at the accounting firm of BDO USA, where she focused on private client tax services.

At Varnum, Downes' practice will focus on assisting clients in wealth and estate planning, providing a full range of planning and estate settlement services, with a particular focus on personal income tax and estate and gift tax matters.  Downes is a 2013 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. She received her undergraduate degree in finance from Michigan State University.
