Pappas address WMU-Cooley grads on changes in the practice of law

On Sunday, May 17, 250 graduates from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Michigan campuses were presented with juris doctor and master of laws degrees. Edward Pappas, partner at Dickinson Wright, PLLC, in Troy, and past president of the State Bar of Michigan, presented the keynote during the law school’s graduation ceremonies at the Michigan State University Auditorium.

In his speech, Pappas, who volunteers with many organizations and serves on several boards, including WMU-Cooley’s board, told the graduates that the practice of law has changed extensively because of today’s technology, and clients expect better, faster, and cheaper services more than ever before.

“I urge you to embrace change and take advantage of the opportunities it will bring you,” said Pappas. “Change was not easy for me, and it is usually difficult for most people, especially lawyers, but if embraced, change presents new and exciting opportunities for lawyers of all ages.”

Each class at WMU-Cooley bears the name of a distinguished member of the legal profession. The May 2015 class is named after Robert Trimble, an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1826-1828.
