On November 29, 2017, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a Criminal Sexual Conduct case that occurred at Westbrook Recovery Center in Grand Rapids Township. Investigators received information from Westbrook staff regarding inappropriate conduct on the part of Dr. Steven Scranton.
As the investigation progressed, several allegations of inappropriate sexual contact were reported to investigators by patients of Dr. Scranton. A search warrant was executed at the Scranton residence in Rockford MI on January 29, 2018, after which Steven Scranton was arrested and lodged at the Kent County Jail.
This case was presented to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office on January 30, 2018, where the following charges were issued:
1. CSC 2nd Degree-Personal Injury
2. CSC 4th Degree-Force or Coercion
3. CSC 4th Degree-Force or Corcion
