Thibodeau named to Director of the Appointments Office
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently announced Varnum attorney Alex Thibodeau will join her staff as Director of the Appointments Office, responsible for seeking candidates for more than 200 boards and commissions, as well as vacancies on the governor’s cabinet and judicial vacancies.
While at Varnum, Thibodeau’s legal practice centered around the intersection of law, public policy and emerging technology through regulatory and data privacy analysis and policy. He also is experienced in telecommunication and utility regulation including small cell / 5G development, as well as complex litigation.
Thibodeau received a bachelor’s degree in political science and associate degree in journalism from DePaul University.
He earned his law degree from Indiana University Maurer School of Law where he was president of the Student Bar Association, and served as a summer clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young.
He also was a Stewart Fellowship recipient and spent several months serving the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi.
GRBA Golf Outing is Slated for August 2
The Grand Rapids Bar Association’s 2023 annual golf coutig is set for Wednesday, August 2, at The Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe, located at 7211 48th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.
Lunch is at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.
Dinner and an awards presenation follows the golf. Cash bar at the 19th hole.
The registration deadline is July 14.
If you don’t have a foursome, sign up solo and the GRBA organizers will find you a team.
The cost is $130 for a single golfer, $520 for a firm team, or a mixed team.
Food sponsorships are $1,000; hole sponsorships are $300.
