Milan Medical marijuana grower faces manslaughter charge MILAN, Mich. (AP) -- A Michigan medical marijuana grower has been charged with manslaughter after authorities say he chased and fatally shot one of two men who tried to rob him. AnnArbor.com reports 50-year-old Robert Goupill of Milan, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit, was arraigned Monday in Monroe County. He's charged in Thursday's shooting death of 28-year-old Jerald Ogden of Ypsilanti. Goupill also is charged with manufacturing a controlled substance. Police say he was growing more marijuana than allowed under Michigan law. Goupill is due back in court March 19. A message seeking comment was left Tuesday with lawyer Edward Swinkey. A medical examiner said Ogden died of a shotgun wound to the back. Police say the shooting happened about 200 yards from Goupill's home. The other robbery suspect was being sought. Mount Clemens 2nd trial date set in assault case vs. Mich. man MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -- A date for a second trial has been set in the case of a former medical resident who authorities say sexually assaulted and critically injured his girlfriend's 13-month-old daughter. A judge in Macomb County Circuit Court on Monday scheduled a June 5 trial date for 33-year-old David Montaldi. A jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case earlier this year. Montaldi was charged with first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Montaldi claims he slipped and dropped the girl in December 2010 in Mount Clemens. He formerly worked at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Mount Clemens Stepmother guilty in sex-assault, murder of girl MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -- A jury has convicted a southeastern Michigan woman of sexually assaulting and murdering her 2-year-old stepdaughter. The Macomb County Circuit Court jury convicted 30-year-old Renee King on Monday of felony murder, criminal sexual conduct and child abuse. The murder conviction carries an automatic penalty of life in prison without parole. King covered her face with her hands after hearing the verdict. Authorities say Lily Wolfenbarger-Furneaux was killed in Nov. 20, 2010, in King's New Haven mobile home. Lily died from multiple blunt force blows to her head and had a vaginal injury.
