The Negligence Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present its Supreme Summer Seminar on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy.
Although the Supreme Court will continue to release cases until the end of the term, the section will present the following decisions, among others:
• Joseph v ACIA, PIP: Is there any way left to circumvent the one-year back rule?; with Roni Tischler of Miller & Tischler PC and Jim Gross of Gross & Nemeth PLC
• Defrain v State Farm, UM/Insurance contracts: Do policies mean what they say or is there any way to use a lack of prejudice to invoke coverage?; with Andrew D. Sugerman of Conlin,
McKenney, & Philbrick PC, and Bob Drazin of Drazin & Associates.
• Titan v Hyten, Coverage: Is a “little” fraud in the application OK, or is coverage voided?; with Bob Raitt of MichiganAutoLaw and Ron Sangster of Law Office of Ronald M. Sangster PLLC.
• Hoffner v Lanctoe (anticipated to be released involving open and obvious, effectively unavoidable); with Sarah Nadeau of Garan, Lucow, Miller PC.
These cases and other questions will be discussed in an interactive format presented by litigators involved in or very familiar with these important decisions.
A legislative update of the current status of medical malpractice and No-Fault legislation will also be presented.
Cost for the program is $75 and includes dinner.
