Butzel Long hosted a private reception on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Belle Isle Aquarium in celebration of the firm’s 160th anniversary. At the same time, the firm announced that Eastpointe resident Bruce Gerlach (far right) as the winner of the Belle Isle Aquarium Weathervane Design Competition which Butzel Long recently sponsored. Gerlach will receive a $500 prize. Gerlach’s weathervane design features a gar, a fish native to the Great Lakes, and four electric eels, which will adorn the Belle Isle Aquarium’s cupola. The design competition also celebrates the Belle Isle Aquarium’s 110 birthday. The competition was open to U.S. citizens at least 18 years of age. Congratulating Gerlach were (left to right) Belle Isle Conservancy President Michele Hodges, Butzel Long Chairman Richard Rassel, and Gerlach’s wife, Tina.
