Brooklyn attorney honored for work on domestic violence

Wanda Lucibello, the executive assistant district attorney for Victim Advocacy in the Brooklyn, N.Y., District Attorney's office, has been named the recipient of the 2015 Sharon L. Corbitt Award by the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence. The award ceremony will take place in conjunction with the 20/20 Vision Awards during the Commission's 20th Anniversary reception on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago during the ABA Annual Meeting. The award has been presented by the commission since 2008 to attorneys who demonstrate exemplary service to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking, in the spirit of Sharon L. Corbitt. Corbitt was an active member of the American Bar Association for 25 years, serving as a member of the Commission on Domestic Violence from 2002-05 after completing her term as chair of the Family Law Section. Lucibello, a Brooklyn native, has conducted training programs for police, prosecutors and service providers in the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence cases in conjunction with the National College of District Attorneys and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute. At the request of the United States Department of State, she spent several weeks in 1998 and 2000 in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa where she worked with prosecutors and women's groups on new legislative initiatives in family violence. In conjunction with the Office on Violence Against Women in Washington, D.C., she assisted in the preparation of a prosecutor's brochure on Full Faith and Credit in Interstate Orders of Protection.
