Detroit court issues alert about scam

The 36th District Court has learned of a scam in which individuals posing as court employees are targeting citizens, via Facebook and other social media outlets, offering a discount on outstanding fines.

Individuals are instructed to send money to them directly, via Western Union, in order to receive the discount.

The court advised last week it would never request payment to be made through Western Union or directly through social media.

Any amnesty programs, special promotions, or waivers will be announced on the court’s website and official Facebook page.

Those court advised those contacted via social media by anyone claiming to be an employee of the Court offering a discount on fines and costs to contact local authorities.
