'Diversity, Equity & Inclusion' workshop series kicks off Nov. 16

The Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present  a three-part workshop series titled  “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: From Awareness to Action.”

In an effort to provide meaningful and practical DE&I education and tools, the OCBA is excited to bring in two experts, Cheryl Thompson and Margaret Baxter from the Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion, & Advancement.

Figuring out where to start on a  Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion journey can be overwhelming. Some organizations are reacting to external pressure from the community, their boards, or their clients. Others clearly see the business case for DE&I.

Whatever the reason for developing DE&I initiatives, these workshops will help bring awareness to hidden biases and inequities and teach attendees to be an ally.

The three workshops will include:

• Unconscious Bias: Identifying and Overcoming Hidden Bias in Yourself and Your Team—Monday, November 16, from noon to  1:30 p.m.

• Micro-Inequities: What are They, How to Spot and Talk About Them—Thursday, January 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

• How to Be an Ally: Standing Beside and Up for Women, People of Color, LGBTQ and Other Unrepresented Groups—Thursday, March 11, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The workshops are scheduled to take place online via Zoom. Details on how to join the meeting will be distributed in a separate email to those who pre-register. Cost is $40 for three workshop package for OCBA members or $80 for three workshop package for non-members.  Cost to attend each session is  $15 each for OCBA members or $30 each for non-members.  Space is limited.  To register, visit www.ocba.org and click on “events.”
