American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE) will present the webcast “Estate Planning in a Cyber World: Cryptocurrency, NFTs, and Digital Accounts” on Thursday, March 31, from noon to 1 p.m.
New types of digital property including virtual currencies and non-fungible tokens, along with “old” digital property such as e-mail messages bring with them a new set of challenges to transfer upon death.
Often difficult to identify and value, these assets require particular attention from estate planning practitioners to ensure these intangible assets are properly disclosed and transferred to their clients’ intended recipients.
As digital assets, such as cryptocurrency and NFTs, have grown in popularity, more and more people are including them in their estate plans. The emergence of these relatively new forms of assets have created challenges for estate planners when drafting or updating traditional estate plans for clients. This 60-minute webcast focuses on how to properly plan for cryptocurrency, NFTs, and e-mail messages when preparing clients’ estates.
This presentation provides estate planning advice for cyber property, including cryptocurrency, NFTs, and e-mail accounts. It also includes sample language for use in wills, powers of attorney, and requests to custodians. All registrants will receive a set of downloadable course materials to accompany the program.
The program provides direction to attorneys who are faced with creating a comprehensive estate program that properly identifies, secures, transfers, protects, and gifts clients’ digital property.
Cost for the webcast is $199. To register, visit www.ali-cle.org.
