The Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFFMC) is proud to partner with the Muskegon Area District Library (MADL) for the Annual Gathering – Celebrating Home, taking place 6 p.m., Nov. 14 at the Frauenthal Center.
This free event, open to the public, will feature the 2023 Impact Award recipient, a presentation provided by this year's NEA Big Read Author, Jerry Craft, as well as free food, cash bar, book sales, and more! Registration is encouraged via Eventbrite.
The Impact Award recognizes a community member who has gone above and beyond to advance education, foster a dynamic local economy, and promote prosperity for all in Muskegon County.
The recipient will receive $5,000 to grant to a local nonprofit.
Craft, will be speak on, "Embracing My Own Boldness (in a world that demands that I be humble)" - How does a reluctant reader, who was told that comics would rot his brain, grow up to create a graphic novel that won the Newbery Medal? Craft takes you on his journey. A book signing will follow the event.
NEA Big Read Lakeshore is a community-wide reading program that takes place annually in October and November in Ottawa, Allegan, and Muskegon counties.
A Hope College program in collaboration with over 100 community partners along the Lakeshore, NEA Big Read Lakeshore encourages Lakeshore readers of all ages to come together around chosen books and to use this shared experience of reading, discussing and exploring the books' themes and topics as a springboard to learn from and listen to each other. Join MADL in participating in this program!
NEA Big Read Lakeshore is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
In addition to the partnership between the CFFMC and MADL, the following organizations have been instrumental in making NEA Big Read Lakeshore an inclusive community initiative; The Book Nook & Java Shop, Lakeshore Museum Center, Rotary Club of Muskegon, White Lake Community Library, Hackley Public Library, Muskegon Area Intermediate School District, Great Start Collaborative, Western Michigan Genealogical Society, Bethlehem Park Neighborhood Association.
