100th career win

Jackson Bagwell now looking
to set school record

Now that Climax-Scotts junior Jackson Bagwell has reached one noteworthy goal, he’s set his sight on another lofty achievement.

The Panther junior earned his 100th career win with a 3-2 decision over Benzie Central’s Dalton Geetings at the very tough Hudson Tournament January 20.

While reaching 100 career wins has always been a goal of Bagwell, his main goal is to set the school record for career wins, which stands at 188 and was set by Jordan Tutt (188-37) in 2019.

Bagwell admits initially, he overlooked the 100 career win milestone but as he got closer, “I realized how special it really is.”

“Once I got my 100th win, I was very excited and proud because it is a very impressive accomplishment for a wrestler, especially as a junior. I just kind of took it all in and smiled for the camera with my mom and my poster. It was really cool to hear all of the people in the gym clapping, especially since we were at Hudson for a very tough tournament with the best wrestlers in the state,” said Bagwell.

The C-S grappler said he hopes the younger wrestlers in the C-S wrestling program can look up to him and see that hard work can not only bring success, but some pretty cool accomplishments like Bagwell just realized by earning his 100th career win.

“As a youth wrestler, things didn’t come easy to me. I would look up to the high school wrestlers, wanting to achieve what they had so I kept working hard. So now it’s cool to be in the position where I have the opportunity to set an example for the future wrestlers,” points out Bagwell.

While he experienced happiness when he earned his 100th career win, the Panther junior literally had to go endure some pain a short time later.

Bagwell suffered a broken nose in his semifinal match and thought his day might be over.

But he said former C-S wrestling coach Jim Wade, who started wrestling at C-S and still follows the team, was able to find a face mask he could wear over his headgear to protect his nose and allow him to finish the competition.

“I am very thankful that he (Wade) did (find a mask) because I did not want to injury forfeit the next match and also didn’t want to have to go to the hospital like my mother was going to make me do,” said Bagwell.
