Late free throws helps G-A hold off Delton-Kellogg

Strong free throw shooting in the fourth quarter helped the Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team hold off Delton-Kellogg last Friday, 52-48 on the road.

G-A, now 10-2, led by a 42-36 count after three quarters, however Delton-Kellogg’s come back aspirations in the fourth quarter was countered by an 8-for-12 effort at the charity stripe by the Rams to hold on for the win.

With five players entering the scoring column, G-A took a 17-11 lead after one quarter.

The Rams, behind Ethan Thomas’ seven points in the second quarter, took a 31-24 lead at halftime and G-A maintained the seven-point lead (42-35) after three quarters.

G-A enjoyed a strong night rebounding, collecting 42 total rebounds including 14 under the offensive glass.

Ethan Thomas led G-A with 12 points and four steals. Jeremiah Mann had 10 points and six rebounds, Nolan Brewer had 13 rebounds and Tegan Lockmiller pitched in with 10 boards.

The Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team outscored Constantine 19-11 in the third quarter and held off the Falcons 52-40 at G-A High School January 23.

G-A moved in front 20-15 at halftime before expanding the lead to 13 points (39-26) at the end of three quarters.

Jeremiah Mann and Fred Slater each scored 10 points to pace G-A in scoring.

G-A shot a warm 48 percent (19-39) from two-point range.

The Rams were active defensively, coming up with 16 steals, with Nolan Brewer’s four swipes leading the way.
