Win over Delton-Kellogg keeps
G-A JVs undefeated
A 63-35 win over Delton-Kellogg January 25 kept the Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team undefeated at 11-0.
Giovonni Evans scored 18 points and Anakin Jordan added 14 points.
G-A expects a tough task in its next game February 1 against Saugatuck, who the Rams only defeated by three points earlier in the season. The JVs will host South Haven February 6 at 5:30 p.m. and play at Black River February 8 at 7 p.m.

The Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team claimed a 50-21 win over Constantine January 23 at G-A High School.
A 22-4 surge in the first quarter got the Rams started in the right direction and the home team never looked back.
G-A held Constantine scoreless in the second quarter and took a 32-4 lead into halftime.
Calvin Benard, with 16 points, and Giovonni Evans, with 14 points, led G-A in scoring.

The Galesburg-Augusta JV basketball team outscored Gobles 38-11 in the first half on the way to a 66-29 win January 18 on the road.
Three Rams scored in double figures, with Calvin Benard’s 16 points leading the way. Giovonni Evans added 15 points and Ethan Metty pitched in with 10 points.

Strong defense helps G-A to 82-13 win
The Ram JV boys basketball team held Martin to single digits in each quarter including a scoreless fourth quarter, helping the team to a 82-13 win January 11 at G-A High School.
G-A raced out to a 28-4 lead after one quarter.
The Rams enjoyed a balanced scoring attack, with four G-A players reaching double figures in scoring.
Calvin Benard scored 22 points, Aiden Moses and Jayden Roe each scored 14 points and Giovonni Evans added 11 points.

G-A wrestling team drops 2 at quad
The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team lost two matches at the Delton-Kellogg quad January 24.
G-A fell to Delton-Kellogg 75-6, and lost to Allegan lost to Allegan 81-0.
There were no G-A winners except one by a forfeit.
The Rams will return to action in the SAC championship at Constantine February 3 at 10 a.m., followed by the team districts hosted by G-A at 6 p.m.
Lady Rams get back in win column

After losing three straight the Galesburg-Augusta ladies took their frustrations out on the host Panthers of Delton-Kellogg with a 64-19 win January 26 on the road.
The Rams, now 3-7, used a stifling man-to-man defense that held Delton to 12 first half points and just 7 in the second half.
G-A jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter lead with Maureen McBride scoring 6 points with a 3-pointer, a layup and a free throw. Jaidyn Klimp picked up 6 points in the paint and Rhyann Wilson added 5 with two inside buckets and a free throw.
In the second quarter the Rams used the press to their advantage. Klimp turned three steals into quick scores, McBride hit her second 3-pointer, Lili Thompson knocked down a short jumper and G-A went into the locker room with a 32-12 lead.
The Rams kept putting on the pressure and increased their lead in the third quarter with Grace Gibson and Jaidyn Klimp picking up 5 and 4 points respectively. Wilson and Thompson each added a score leaving the Rams with a 45-17 lead after three.
In the fourth quarter it was Thompson scoring 7 to bring her total to 11 points. Gibson brought her game total to 11 points by adding 5 points. Klimp’s two free throws brought her game high total to 21 points.
Although G-A’s shooting percentage was only 33%, the Rams recorded 25 offensive rebounds, which gave them several opportunities for second chance points. Klimp (13), Gibson (9) and Wilson (5) were the top rebounders.
The defense registered 29 steals which were turned into six easy baskets. Klimp had 9 swipes, McBride had 5 and Thompson, Ellesa Callender, Gibson and Wilson had 3 each.
Coach Lindsey Newton was especially pleased with the way the girls played together as a team as evidenced by a season high 14 assists.

Kalamazoo Christin opened the game with a 13-0 run before the Galesburg-Augusta girls varsity basketball team got on the scoreboard with a basket and two free throws by Jaidyn Klimp and the home team cruised to a 64-27 win over the Rams January 23 at K-Christian.
Kalamazoo Christian extended the lead to 18-4 before Klimp hit two more jumpers and two free throws to cut the lead to 18-10.
The Comets then scored the last seven points of the quarter giving the home team a 25-10 lead after one quarter.
The Rams went cold in the second quarter with the only points coming on a Maureen McBride free throw and the Rams trailed at halftime by a 49-11 margin.
The second-half started out just as the first half, with K-Christian scoring the first 19 points of the stanza.
Liliana Thompson scored on a layup and four points from the free throw line for G-A’s only points of the third-quarter and the score stood 62-16 in favor of the hosts entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Rams out scored Kalamazoo Christian 11-2 with Klimp scoring five, Ellesa Calendar and Brooklyn James each adding three in the quarter, however it wasn’t enough.

The Galesburg-Augusta JV girls basketball team saw its record leveled at 4-4 following a 53-4 loss to Kalamazoo Christian January 23 on the road.
No individual leaders were available.
The JVs were scheduled to play Delton-Kellogg January 25 but Delton-Kellogg no longer has a JV girls team.
Next up for the JVs is a home game with Saugatuck February 1 followed by another game at home February 5 against Battle Creek Pennfield at 5:30 p.m.

The Galesburg-Augusta freshman basketball team won its first game of the season with a 38-35 win over Constantine in overtime January 23 at G-A High School.
Gavin Lock scored 30 points to pace G-A in scoring.
