The Climax-Scotts-Martin co-op wrestling team started the post season in a big way February 3 at Constantine by placing first at the SAC Conference Championship match.
The local co-op wrestling team had eight All-Conference wrestlers with top three finishes and two others who were All-Conference Honorable Mention with fourth place finishes.
Earning All-Conference status was Logan Gilbert (106-pound weight class), Cole Reitz (120), Jayce Ritchie (126), Haylen Buell (132), Jackson Bagwell (144) and Sam Bleeker (215) with first place finishes and Kristian Heighton (113) and Malcolm Smith (175) with second place finishes. Jonathan Owen (190) and Max Bleeker (285) were All-Conference Honorable Mention with fourth place finishes.
Gilbert, Reitz, Ritchie. Buell, Bagwell, and Sam Bleeker all posted 3-0 records, while Heighton was 2-1 and Smith was 1-1. Max Bleeker and Owen both posted 2-2 records on the day.
C-S-M finished with 230 points in the 13-team tournament, 23.5 points ahead of second place finishing Constantine (206.5).
The local co-op wrestling team tuned up for the postseason by claiming a pair of SAC meet wins at Martin January 31.
C-S-M won every match in an 84-0 win over Fennville and claimed a 54-18 win over South Haven. The two victories gives C-S-M a 22-5 record.
Kristian Heighton (113), with a forfeit and 10-5 win, Cole Reitz (120), with a forfeit and pin in 55 seconds, Jayce Ritchie (126), with a forfeit and pin in 22 seconds, Haylen Buell (138 and 144), with two pins in 2:40 and 3:29 respectively, Jackson Bagwell (150), with a forfeit and a pin in 5:23, Josh Walman (157 and 165), with a forfeit and a pin in 1:08 and a forfeit, Malcolm Smith (175), with a pin in 35 seconds and a forfeit, Jonathan Owen (190), with two forfeits, and Max Bleeker (285) with a forfeit and 2-1 decision, all won two matches.
Sam Bleeker (215), won one match with a pin in 2:43, and Kendall Reitz (106), Cody Wooten (132), Matthew Holmes (144), and Anderson Keeler (165), all won one match by forfeits.
C-S-M continued its postseason journey in the team districts February 8 against Gobles in the semifinals. Bloomingdale and Bangor wrestled in the other match. Log onto the Climax Crescent Facebook page for results. The winner moves on to the team regionals February 14 at a site to be determined.
