2 straight wins for JV girls basketball team
The Galesburg-Augusta JV girls basketball team claimed its second straight win with a 36-10 victory over Holland Black River February 8 on the road.
The win gives the Rams a 7-5 record entering play February 13 against Hackett.
G-A coach Dontrell Bowden said good defense by all players and playing as a team were big contributors to the victory.
Hailee Themins scored 13 points, Lexi Coburn and Emily Coleman each scored eight points and Lillian Walden added four points.
G-A moved back over the .500 mark February 6 with a 39-28 win over Watervliet.
The team was coming off a 42-33 loss to Battle Creek Pennfield the previous night.
Individual highlights were not available from both games.
G-A will host Gobles February 22, play at Plainwell February 27 and close out the season with a home contest against Battle Creek St. Philip February 29.
JV boys basketball team losses first game
of season but quickly bounces back
The Galesburg-Augusta boys JV basketball team quickly bounced back from suffering its first loss of the season with a 56-45 win over Holland Black River February 8 on the road.
The 14-1 Rams received 14 points from both Calvin Benard and Hayden Pritchard in the win over Black River.
G-A’s first loss of the season came against South Haven, 45-40, February 6 at G-A High School.
Giovonni Evans scored 15 points and Pritchard added 10 points for the Rams in the setback.
The Rams will close out the season with a home game against Gobles February 22 at 7 p.m.
Freshmen boys basketball team closes season with loss
The Galesburg-Augusta boys freshman basketball team closed the season with a 53-22 loss to South Haven February 6 at G-A High School.
G-A completes the season with a 2-9 record.
Gavin Lock finished with seven points for the Rams.

Wrestling team falls short at team districts
The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team saw the team portion of the season end February 8 with a 75-4 loss to Mendon at G-A High School in the team districts.
Mendon won the team district championship by defeating Athens, which drew a bye in the three-team district, 75-4 in the championship match.
Gregory Buckner (132-pound weight class), with a pin in 2:22, Jaxsen Ray (138), with a pin in 1:55, and Dominic Corsi (144), with a pin in 2:56, won matches for G-A in the team district semifinal loss to Mendon.
The G-A wrestlers also competed in the individual districts February 10, however no wrestlers captured a top four finish to qualify for the individual regionals.
G-A will however have two representative in the girls individual regionals February 18 at Gull Lake.
Senior Summer Herring, at the 100-pound weight class, and sophomore Caitlyn Valadez, at the 170-pound weight class, will be vying for top four finishers to qualify for the Girls Individual State Finals March 1 and 2 at Ford Field.
Valadez was a Individual State Finals qualifier last year when she dropped her first two matches.

Good ball distribution led to a potent offensive attack for the Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team in a 74-46 win over Holland Black River at G-A High School February 9 on Snowcoming night.
The Rams entered a road game February 13 with a 12-4 record with the win.
G-A piled up 18 assists in the win, with Ethan Gibson’s four assists and three helpers from John Klimp, Ethan Thomas and Adam Hubbard helping the cause.
The G-A defense also frustrated Black River often, coming up with 17 steals, with Jeremiah Mann’s five swipes leading the way.
G-A clicked offensively right at the start of the game, racing out to a 23-10 lead after one quarter behind 10 points from Jeremiah Mann.
The Rams didn’t let up the rest of the way, increasing the lead to 39-22 at halftime and taking a 53-34 advantage into the fourth quarter.
G-A shot 40 percent (30-75) from two-point range and made 5-of-17 (29 percent) three-point attempts.
Mann, who was 4-for-10 from the three-point line and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, led the Rams in scoring with 26 points and Ethan Thomas, who was 6-for-12 from two-point range, added 13 points.

South Haven took a 16-8 lead after one quarter, however a disasterous second quarter when G-A only managed a three-point basket by Ethan Thomas and two free throws by Klimp led to a 26-13 deficit at halftime.
Despite the 13-point deficit at halftime, G-A got back in the game with a strong third quarter to pull to within 38-31 entering the fourth quarter.
But G-A’s offensive frustrations returned in the fourth quarter when the Rams outscored the home team 13-9.
